Printing Tips

Note: If you have difficulty printing or it is not practical for you to do so, send an email (see the Contact page). Specify what material you want, how many copies and where you live. A quote will then be sent to you (usually within two working days).

General

Two-Minute Edition: This is formatted to be printed on both sides of one A6 size sheet (a quarter of an A4 sheet) – and then folded in half. See also Further Tips for Booklets (in the next column).

For multiple copies, use one of the following files. These are for printing 4 copies on an A4 sheet. For either file, print its contents (a single page) on both sides of a sheet. Then cut the sheet in four.

Pocket Edition: This is formatted to be printed on both sides of two A5 size sheets (a half of an A4 sheet) – and then folded in half and stapled. See also Further Tips for Booklets (in the next column).

Concise Edition: This is formatted to be printed on both sides of nine A5 size sheets – and then folded in half and stapled. See also Further Tips for Booklets (in the next column).

Foundations Edition and Intermediate Edition: These are formatted to be printed on A5 size sheets. Preferably print on both sides of the sheets. One way of doing this is to print all the odd-numbered pages first. Then (preferably after the paper has cooled) put the paper back into the printer, select reverse print order and print the even-numbered pages. (To see the Reverse Print Order option in MS Word, click the Options button in the Print dialog box.) Have the pages wire bound by a local printer.

Comprehensive Edition and In‑Depth Edition (release uncertain, dependant on demand): These are formatted to be printed on A4 size sheets. Preferably print on both sides of the sheets and have them comb or wire bound.

Studies: The Intermediate Study Series is formatted to be printed on both sides of A4 size sheets – and then folded in half and stapled. The other three study series are formatted to be printed on A5 size sheets – and then folded in half and stapled. See also Further Tips for Booklets (in the next column).

Further Tips for Booklets

(For the Two-Minute Edition, Pocket Edition, Concise Edition and the four study series)

It is simpler to print these using the PDF files.

For the ones to be printed on size A5 paper, click the Properties button in the Print dialog box and change the Paper Size to A5 or A5 Long Edge. (Then click OK.)

To print the pages back-to-back, firstly print the odd numbered pages. To do so, in the Print dialog box choose Odd Pages only in the Subset drop down box. (Then click OK.) Then choose Even Pages only and print on the other side of the paper.

To avoid having to physically reverse the order of the paper after printing, experiment with the Reverse pages option in the Print dialog box. For example you may find it works best by keeping this option checked while printing both the odd and even numbered pages.

If printing in MS Word 2002/XP or later versions of MS Word, in the Print dialog box check the Manual Duplex option.

Note that before putting paper back into the printer to print on the second side, ensure that it has cooled and is reasonably flat.

Use of Coloured Paper for Presentation Purposes

Try printing the Two-Minute Edition and Pocket Edition on light colored paper, rather than just plain white. The lighter the color the easier the text is to read.

Try using thicker colored paper for the covers of the other editions. Preferably use at least 100gsm weight. If you have access to a printer that can handle it, use 170gsm-250gsm weight.

For the editions that are bound, preferably use a perspex sheet before the front cover, and a thicker colored page at the back, for support.
